These are 3 day bow making courses in which you will learn how to make a traditional flat bow from an ash bow stave. You will learn all you need to know as a beginner in the art of bow making. Many of the skills you will learn are transferable and apply to other aspects of wood-working and bushcraft.

The purpose of this course is for Jamie to pass on the skills of bow making so you can begin your personal journey as a bowyer (someone who makes bows). As a result of your participation, you will have made your own hand made bow that you can treasure for the rest of your life.

Course content

  • Bow design

  • Wood selection

  • Tillering

  • String making and string materials

  • Finishing techniques and sealing

  • Basic understanding of arrows and fletching materials

Lead instructor Jamie has accrued 18 years of bow making experience, making his first bow for the design technology GCSE at school. He underwent instruction in private classes, similar to this one, at age 16, then studied Bow-making as part of his advanced bushcraft instructor qualification at Plumpton College in Sussex. Jamie began his teaching career, for this craft, at a local bushcraft business here in North Yorkshire, delivering his first ever class at 18 years old. Since then his knowledge has developed, become broader and encompasses influences from working American Traditional bowyers. Jamie is an inspiring tutor and will enable you to make your own unique bow by imparting his skills, in-depth knowledge and a few simple tricks of the trade.

The price of this 3 day course is £250 and camping is included.
